"A mountain can be both a peak of accomplishment or a point to fall from. Mountains symbolise eternal return, survival and demise – the climb, the exertion of labour, leading to a fall. Fluxing mountainous landscapes also haunt the stock market charting financial losses and gains or visually marking the start of a recession across mainstream media.
Practice Mountain is a creative critical text exploring how recessions, and precarity, shape how we survive creatively in the contemporary. It explores the experience of a recession as a patriarchal system, an absent father and how we exist amongst the neoliberalisation of everything, including family life.
Practice Mountain is the expansion of a text formed as part of Emma Edmondson's show A mountain, foiled. A game, lost at Arcade in Cardiff, 2019.
Practice Mountain is by Emma Edmondson. It is a digitally printed bound A5 book. 40 pages. It is an unlimited edition."
